Team Vanguard Teaches Youth Appreciation and Proper Use of Quality Optics.

Cub Scouts from Pack 1838 in Powhatan, VA went afield with Team Vanguard during the 2017 Spring Campout.  The scouts were challenged with an “Optics Seek & Find”; a kind of scavenger hunt for the eyes. During the exercise, the pack of over 30 scouts was divided into groups and provided training on what binoculars and spotting scopes are primarily used for, how optics help you see things that cannot be seen with only the human eye and proper operation of the mechanics and care of the equipment.

On-site was Vanguard’s Product Marketing Manager, Bob Kaleta, to train, assist and answer the many questions.  The scouts were given a check sheet and they had to scan both forest and field for strategically placed items like various whitetail deer, turkey and duck decoys.

The scouts also could use their optics to search for items like baseball hats (both colorful and camouflaged) and items that didn’t belong in nature to reinforce the scout motto of “Leave No Trace”.

In addition to using the Vanguard Spirit RT MLB series 10x42 binoculars, the scouts were trained on the Endeavor XF spotting scope.  During the weekend-long event, the scouts also learned about animal calls and how to make them, how to properly build a fire, and how to make and use a rope lasso.
