Stephen Banks

Stephen Banks has been photographing the night skies of Dorset since 2011.
His work has been published in local magazines, photography magazines, local and national newspapers, and he has appeared on UK national television. In 2013, his image of Durdle Door was used prominently for the promotion of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibition, and featured on the front cover of the collection book that year.

Dorset is teeming with landscape photographers, and with good reason. However, the area has no motorways or cities, and holds some fantastic dark skies, as well as iconic landmarks.

Using a full-frame camera and ultra-wide lens setup, as well as a motorised tracker, he can capture extraordinary detail in the Milky Way, the celestial object on which he focuses his work. He has a Facebook page with nearly 25,000 fans, and sells a calendar of his work each year. Stephen is also a director of a marketing company, where he works full time.
