VANGUARD Alta Pro 283CT receives top international design honors

WHITMORE LAKE, Mich. – VANGUARD’s Alta Pro 283CT tripod has been selected as a Red Dot Design Award winner for 2010.

This distinguished award recognizing the best of the best in contemporary design has been handed out at the conclusion of an international juried design competition hosted by the Design Zentrum Nordhein Westfalen, in Essen, Germany, for nearly 60 years.

This year’s contest drew more than 4,000 submissions from nearly 60 countries. Winners will receive their awards in person during a gala ceremony in the Essen Aalto-Theater on July 5.

"All products that have won a Red Dot Design Award had to convince an international expert jury of their quality. The products stand out from the masses with their excellent design and innovative approaches and proved their quality in one of the toughest design competitions worldwide," explains design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the Red Dot Design Award.

With Alta Pro, VANGUARD’s in-house design team set out to make a lightweight tripod able to shoot any angle within a couple of seconds. The result is a modern tripod as functional as it is lightweight, as good looking as it is easy to use.

Unlike traditional tripods, Alta Pro's innovative Multi-Angle Central Column (MACC) allows users to move the central column as needed from zero to 130-degree angles in variable vertical and horizontal positions and at any angle a 360° scope is available.

Its Instant Swivel Stop-n-Lock (ISSL) System feature allows photographers to securely reposition the central column in one simple movement in just a few seconds, while maintaining the tripod's stability. With lightweight carbon fiber or aluminum alloy legs, the Alta Pro is popular for those who need extreme flexibility minus a heavy weight.

Alta Pro 283CT and its fellow 2010 Red Dot Design Award Winners will be displayed from July 6 - Aug. 1 in the exhibition "Design on stage - winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2010" at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, before joining the museum's permanent exhibition, where it will be displayed for at least a year.

The museum’s 4,000 square meters of floor space provides a showcase for about 1,500 Red Dot winning products from across the globe. Previous Red Dot winners include Apple, Sony, Bodum, Bose, Adidas and Mercedes-Benz.

Red Dot winners will also be listed in the museum’s online exhibition for at least a year from the day of the award ceremony and listed in an online index of all participants from this year’s competition.

The Red Dot is not the first significant recognition for Alta Pro. In April 2009, the Technical Image Press Association's General Assembly, comprised of the editors of 25 of the top European photo magazines, recognized it as "Best Accessory 2009" for its advanced flexibility and stability. It has also earned numerous best of the best and editor's choice awards by global photography publications.
