Auctus Plus 323CT Tripod and GH-100 Pistol-Grip Ball Head Snag IDEA Silver Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America

Whitmore Lake, MI – VANGUARD, one of the global leaders in photo-video accessories, today announced its Auctus Plus 323CT tripod and GH-100 pistol grip ball head have together earned a prestigious 2011  International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA®) Silver Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
The IDSA unveiled the winners of the 2011 IDEA® program — a celebration of design excellence in products, sustainability, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts. This year, the 31-year-old competition received a record number of entries, breaking the 2,000 mark.

“The IDEA program is considered by many as the ‘Oscars’ of design competitions because the judging process is rigorous and judged by the experts in their field,” said IDSA’s CEO Clive Roux. “This year our Best in Show award reveals another powerful story about the growing link between design and responsibility.”

“The rigor of selecting the best of over 2,000 entries culminated in three days of intense dialogue and debate that was stimulating and rewarding for the 20 expert jurors—we are proud of the work we have chosen to represent the best from our profession,” said IDEA’s Jury Chair Davin Stowell, founder and CEO of Smart Design.

The 2011 IDEA jury, made up made up 20 international design experts coming from design consultancies, corporations and universities, spent weeks previewing entries online and two-and-a-half days of face-to-face evaluation and debate at The Henry Ford, a museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Judging criteria focused on eight areas of industrial design excellence: innovation; benefit to the user; benefit to society; benefit to the client; visual appeal and appropriate aesthetics; usability, emotional factors and unmet needs for the design research category; and internal factors, methods, strategic value and implementation for the design strategy category.

With lightweight carbon fiber legs, Auctus Plus 323CT tripod offers extreme stability and flexibility. Its legs adjust to 25, 50 and 80-degree angles for use on uneven ground and for low-angle photography. Its ultra-smooth Extreme Support Height Positioning (ESHP) Wheel System is a dual-function wheel gear that adjusts central column height securely while supporting heavy gear. It is particularly unique in that this advanced gear wheel also enables precise height fine tuning while holding an extreme loading weight – a feature not previously introduced.

It’s designed to go from a studio to an outdoor shoot in a snap with additional features for the outdoors. Auctus Plus’ leg locks are exceptionally solid, secure and seal out dust and sand to provide impressive reliability. Setup is quick, too, with one-twist-to-loosen locks. Unique All-terrain Feet convert from anti-rust spikes to angled, textured rubber for secure footing on an array of terrains.

Other features include an innovative locking camera screw wheel, large bubble level, anti-shock ring, leg scales for precise height adjustment, rubber foam grips and bonus snow shoes.

GH-100 can be operated by a single hand, maximizing comfort and freeing the user’s other hand to make lens zoom adjustments. Depression of the handle allows 360-degrees of panning movement and -32 to +90-degrees of side-to-side tilt and -8 to +90-degree back to front tilt movement all round. It instantly positions into place with simple release of the handle.

Other notable features include:
